Marvin is a decent young Man
By Jan Green of Jaz Live Cash Culture
Marvin, has always been a joy even before he was born. I survived two atopic pregnancies before successful full-term delivery of Marvin. My baby girl was coming up to her 10th birthday when new baby, Marvin, arrived. I could tell he would be a very attentive individual because everytime I turned the ignition to crank the car; my little guy would slightly move. During pregnancy, I would double check over everything I needed for the day, my homework; school books; my lunch ( my spouse did most of the cooking during the week ) and then off to work 8.5 hours then school in the evenings from 5pm til 10pm. I worked full-time as clerical support in a Veterans Hospital and attended school full-time at DeVry University. This was a breeze for my workplace was about 15 city blocks from DeVry ~ very short drive. As soon the car was in motion, "little mister" seamed to want to grab the steering wheel. Either his head or bottom moved as close as it could to the wheel; it was quite obvious he knew I was moving without walking :-) He arrived on January 14, 1992, the eve of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday, which coincidently is the brithdate of Marvin's eldest brother (born January 15, 1966). Marvin, now 17, is the most self-motivated child of all his five elder siblings. * everything he saw his dad or me do, he wanted to be involved - he had his own toy lawn mower and walked behind his dad for a while and winded up sitting on his dad's shoulders ( this lasted for only one season, he was 3) - vaccuming (we bought him a rechargable battery operated vacuum ) - helping in the kitchen as early a 3 ( his father would hand him peeled potatoes to place in a bowl of water) ( his father or I would supervise him toasting bread, even though he did not like eating it at the time, we had to pre-package slices of bread for him to toast, he fussed if we placed bread on plate and we could not give him the entire loaf, because he would not stop toasting bread til the last slice (he had a couple of fits when we took the loaf after the sixth piece of toast) ~ he insisted on untwisting the bread tie and pulling out the slices himself * he asked for his first alarm clock at the age of seven, we were out shopping and he heard a loud bell sound ~ a shopper was testing a two bell alarm clock ~ he followed the sound, as I followed ~ he saw the clock and insist on owning it ~ he's been getting himself up to get ready for school every since * his orientation to the iron and board was at the age 8 and he started using the potato peeler ( he's really fast ) * started Alto Sax lessons in the 3rd grade * school band and performing arts in the 5th grade * among the first group of 6th graders transitioning to middle school in DeKalb County, GA ( I was leery of this; but it work out fine ) * traveled out-of-town for the first time, without me or his father chaperoning, to Tuskegee University (his father gave him his first cell phone for this trip) 7th grade * earned an academic throphy in the 8th grade * 9th through 12 grade a breeze (Marvin, his father and I have been living like college roommates) Marvin's major bad decisions in 17 years * left the cottage to play with his cousins (several family members traveled to Texas to attend a wedding, we all rented cottages at Best Western, five total) ~ Marvin was 8 years old ~ this particular evening, I went to bed early for I was super tired after swimming in the pool. This is where I left little Marvin was with his uncles and dad. His father failed to wake me, when he shoved little Marvin in our cottage with the instructions, "tell your mama to get you ready for bed" ~ little Marvin decided to go find his cousins instead of waking me up ~ around midnight, my spouse woke me up in a frantic voice with the question "Where is Marvin" ~ before I could say, Oh Jesus! One of Marvin's uncles was knocking on the door, with our precious baby boy. His uncle stated that he knew something was wrong, because knew we would never allow him to be out "alone" at night. Marvin received the first and only flogging in his life * he was caught smoking twice ( a cigarette and a cigar ) around the age of 9, he was curious ~ no punishment, he received a lecture ~ to date he dose not smoke; however, his father still smokes cigarettes and I am the cigar culprit * last year, he played hooky from school after completing a high school graduation test ~ busted by his best friend's mom, who drove him straight home; I took him back to school; check him in and informed the lead security guard of his act (the guard and I have been good buddies, since Marvin's first day as a freshman) ~ no punishment, the embarassment of getting busted was enough * that's it Marvin will graduate in May 2010 from Martin Luther King, Jr. High Scool. He is anxious to began studies at DeKalb School of the Arts. Mavin is inspired by Ty Pennington

I was going to guess that he would get into something in the field of arts. Heartwarming story.
