Maverick's Politics to Nowhere

By Jan Green of JazLive Open Public Networking Community

Senator John McCain coined himself as Maverick to change pork barrel spending in Congress. Contrary to his new self-claimed political platform; he failed to demonstrate change in the recently approved, Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 aka Wallstreet Bailout. The original three-page proposal submitted to President Bush by Secretary of Treasury, Henry Paulson clearly addressed failing assets in the financial markets; abandoned mortgaged-backed securities in particular. Secretary Paulson’s proposal also suggested capping earnings of CEOs presiding over inflated securities to address salary expenses in association of the same.

Maverick McCain publicly staged emergency concern, relating to the initial development of the financial bailout, by announcing delays in scheduled campaign appearances to help the President with his proposal. I was impressed Maverick McCain was more interested in not missing the photo shoot of the round table that has decided to “stick it to USA citizens” one more time by appropriating funds to cover up failed banking policies, approved by Congress. Maverick McCain’s presence in Washington, DC observed a three-page proposal inflate to 451 pages of pork!

I believe the proposal is just another economical road to no where. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 is just another failure that has yet to unfold.

Maverick McCain released a political advertisement the same day the pork proposal was signed into law. His ad mentioned his involvement in working on the emergency economy fix that will help U.S. citizen’s move forward from surviving to thriving. By the end of the day, 129,000 more U.S. citizens lost surviving income; joining the ranks of over 10 million unemployed citizens in the last five years.

Senator McCain has been in Congress for half of my life’s existence. I served in the military (Vietnam Era) because employment opportunities were slim pickings for high school graduates who wanted to attend college. Joining the military was immediate employment which relieved my parents of financially supporting me. Sharing my military income helped improve the quality of life for three minor siblings. Pursuing happiness was hopeful until an injury occurred in training. I was not physically examined by a physician. I presented myself to sick call; an administrative specialist (Spec 4) asked me what was my problem; she relayed my complaints to someone in an office I could not see; returned and started typing a prescription label on a typewriter, very similar to the old Remington (noisy and required extra keyboarding effort for type keys to strike paper). I was handed a prescription bottle of pills and told to follow the label instructions.

I was prescribed penicillin; had never taken antibiotics prior to this dispensing. Returning to my unit; I followed instructions. The first night my sleep was interrupted due to back pain, total body itching and digestive irritation. It was also nearing the weekend and I was anxiously looking forward to having a weekend pass from the training facility. The next night back pain diminished; however, body itching was so unbearable I could not sleep. Hand-sized purple blotches appeared on my forearm which made me stop taking the prescription. I shared my discomfort with a medical professional who affirmed I should stop taking the meds because I was showing allergic reactions. The same medical professional shared that I should have been physically examined and some other comments were exchanged that prompted me not to seek more medical attention from my station. Instead, I went on my weekend pass and presented myself to a Veterans Outpatient Clinic in Pa. The examining physician was not pleased with my “sick call visit” ~ his medical assessment was “low back injury” not “kidney infection” ~ this news prompted me to call my parents, who worked on getting me released from active duty. I returned to duty with a profile issued by the Outpatient physician. My unit supervisors sent me from administrative office to administrative office ousting me for not returning to “sick call” over seeking off-station help. My duty, after the last administration office bashing, was to report to a reception hall in dress greens. This was my daily assignment for a couple of weeks. At the end of the business day on October 17, 1975, I received word that I was being separated from active duty. I was instructed to get initials on a clearance sheet and turn in my gear last.

With debilitating back pain, I had to scramble to several check-out points; call my relatives in Pa. for transportation because I did not want to travel back to Pa. via public transportation. I could not turn in my gear at a designated check point because it was closed. I informed the CQ in charge who would not take the gear nor offered suggestions on what to do with it. My ride back to Pa. showed up during the gear turn-in dilemma. We decided to go back to the final check out point and toss the gear over the top of the wall.

Taking extra precautions, since being officially discharged, I did not think it was a good idea for two civilians to be tracking about the post, so I asked one of my fellow military comrades to escort me and my driver back to the final check-out point. The final check out point was a basement storage area. The stair case leading down was walled up a couple of feet short of the ceiling and the door was pad locked. My gear was tightly packed in my military issued duffle bag. My driver tossed the duffle bag over the top of the wooden wall and we celebrated as we heard it rumble down the stairs.

My medical assessment from the Veterans Outpatient Clinic was more accurate than my “sick call” non-assessment, however, deemed “kidney infection” - the absence of proper medical attention in my “sick call” visit still haunts me. I was awarded a low compensation rating; however, as a younger person in the latter 70s, I became a hard skeptic of public servants in general.

When I was a child, we were taught to respect elders. I have not taught my children that concept; none-the-less, I do teach them to respect “intelligence” and seek those who have it. My children have been trained to watch what others do and say. Generally, if what others do and say helps one become wiser to help others, that is a sign of intelligence.

Politics that helps one become wiser to help others is not Maverick McCain’s politics. In 26 years, Senator McCain has not demonstrated “independently dissenting from Republican Ideology” ~ in fact, according to what he has said and done, Senator McCain is thriving to be the new leader of failing political policies that will continue to lead U.S. citizens “no where” close to the pursuit of happiness.

Since his conviction on fraud and conspiracy charges, former lobbyist Jack Abramoff has spent more than 3,000 hours helping more than 100 law enforcement agents in an ongoing federal corruption probe that has implicated "scores of other persons not yet charged," lawyers said in court filings yesterday.

great writeup, if only the republican party had picked a better candidate, they wouldn't be in this mess. Huckabee had the heart when McCain's poll numbers were in shambles. This poor fool will lose, and lose BIG. And I kind of felt sorry for him until I saw his reaction to his crimes on KeatingEconomics.com Obama will bring a new generation to the white house.

CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY

Maybe McCain believes Jim Crow will work for him like it did for Bush in 2000 and 2004 as well as quite a few other Congress Republicans.
