Microwaved Oven Liquid's Can Explode!
Some mornings, I have chicken soup while I do multi-tasking house work, i.e., fold and wash laundry, watch the morning news, keeping track of the time and listening for my son to get ready for school. I usually place two-thirds cup of water in a double-sized coffee cup; stick it in the micro wave oven and turn on the timer for five-minutes - when the timer goes off I am usually in the laundry room or in front of the television, folding laundry. When a commercial comes on, I go back to the kitchen; take out the cup of water and test for heat by placing my hand over the top of the cup - sometimes, more than 5 minutes has past since the timer goes off and I have to re-heat the water, adding the liquids from a can of chicken soup - then I dart off again. One morning, after a second reheat, my son and I was at the kitchen counter talking. I removed the cup of water and chicken soup liquid from the micro wave, I explained to him that sometimes the water in the cup looks like it is not hot enough so don't have your face close to the container when you add to a container of hot liquids, as I added the remaining contents of the can of chicken soup - it exploded straight up to the ceiling. We both did a matrix-like backwards bend; looked at each other then toward the ceiling where bits of noodles and chicken dangled. We laughed, then I shared with my son that I was just told the day before, to spoon micro waved liquids before adding anything to transfer excess heat. A co-worker shared that a cup of coffee exploded on him because the water was not boiling, he thought it was not hot.

Contributor's Note
If you heat liquids in the micro wave, stir the water before adding anything to the heated liquids to avoid injury.
