OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer
Definition OEM. A producer that provides a product to its customers, who proceed to modify or bundle it before distributing it to their customers.
_________________________________________________________ The letters OEM is also associated with software and companies that buys OEMs to place their brand name on, i.e., re-manufactured OEMs like alternators originally manufactured for Ford vehicle product line may be recycled and resold with an Auto Zone brand label. The original terminology was meant for parts that were manufactured by the "original manufacturer" thus if a replacement was needed, a customer could purchase the replacement via part number and be assured the replacement would be interchangeable without adjustments. |
