Snow and Ice Thriller 2011
By Jan Green of Jaz Network Cash
Southeastern states are now spectators of mid-Northern states experiencing record snow and ice parcipitation. During the 2nd week of January 2011, it was a thriller snow and ice storm in several southeastern states. Every state, in Central America, experienced snow and/or ice only excluding the state of Florida. Record snow and/or ice named "Storm 2011" was just over three weeks ago .. to date. Storm 2011 was a thriller to youngsters and some adults. Youngsters were granted extended relief from school and enjoyed playing in the snow; however, adults who were not thrilled are those who were stressed regarding impassable road conditions, especially in residential areas. Impassable roads caused havoc to road travelers for many inches of snow fell rapidly and ahead of planned snow removal tactics. The Department of Transportation (DOT) was caught off-guard and overwhlemed, in south eastern states, for they are not as prepared for snow conditions as northern states. This is because 'it rarely snows inches' in south eastern states. To add insult to injury, inches of sleet followed several inches of snow and tempertures hovered around freezing for several days after. Southeastern states emergency medical facilities were overwhelmed with an influx of new visits from snow related injuries (broken bones) and broken bone related to snow/play folly. Southeasteners are not accustomed to snow lasting for days. Medical providers that were on-duty were over extended and under-staffed do to fellow co-workers, who were stuck at home due to impassable roads. City transit also closed completely down for several days. Residents were encouraged to stay home as not to add to rescue efforts in addition to DOT scrambling to clear snow and ice from roads; priortizing vitial community service roads to fire stations, hospitals, and other vitial community services. Today, northern mid-western states are now experiencing what southeastern states experienced, just under four weeks ago. Blizzard snow and ice is now reeking havoc in record breaking accumulation. In addition to inconviences Southeasterners were faced with, mid-Northeasterners are also facing possible power outage for power lines are not engineered to withstand the weight of iced power lines beyond a couple of inches of encased ice. My family (Mr., Mrs. Green and son-MLK Class of 2010 Alumni) live in Southeast, Central America. We had fun, during Storm 2011; Mr. Green retired from the food distribution industry in 1999; Mrs. Green is a DAV-Vietnam Era and dealing with multiple medical issues (non are life-threatening) and son is preparing to attend college in the Spring. I love to network, crochet and write/publish. Sharing photos, taken with cell phone from Storm 2011 at home. |

You really got it this winter!! We have deep snow here where I live in the Okanagan Valley, B.C. but it drifted down for a couple of days. No wind. It's sort of nice if you are privileged enough not to have to go out in it. I feel sorry for the people who have to work outside in this kind of weather though. I enjoyed viewing your photos. F-U-N-N-Y!
